To get DXX-Rebirth running on your 3dfx Voodoo4 and 5 cards read this:
Hi all before I start, will first explain wht DXX-Rebirth actually is.
DXX-Rebirth is a project for Descent 1 and 2 and all their mission packs to make it possible to run under all new and older Operating systems than Dos stand alone.
These Operating systems are supported:
Microsoft Windows:
All Windows versions from 95 and upwards.
Apple Macintosh x86 & x64 series
Linux series

The guides for the Windows Installation DIFFER slightly. This will be included in the 0.56 release.
Here is what you need to do to get it running on your Voodoo4 or 5 video card, just to get it working:
To get it going there are some things that needed to be done manually, when starting the game you get to see a small narrow screen with Descent II in it which is about 3 cm in height and stretches out to about three quarters of the screen, just press escape a few times till you get the pilot login screen, there you hit enter then you get to the main menu screen, it may seem strange for the first time and believe me it really is good, but at the main page, try and blindly go to the options , then resolution settings and fist switch to 800 x600 then press space bar to accept.
After this you get to see more of the screen, and then go to custom and fill in the following:
1024x768 then hit Enter to accept.
Once this has been done manually the screen will a just it's self to that reso, if you use the 1024x768 reso option from the reso listing, this will not work!
Same instructions go for Win2K & XP with users that have 5500's 6000's as any other type of 3dfx cards from the Voodoo3 1000 and up.The system I ran DXX-R 0.54 on is the following:

This was an old session I posted @ DXX-Rebirth some time ago, this was with DXX-ReBirth version 0.54 and a much older system which I don't use today, but it's a good example on how to get it going, card used here was a 5500 AGP:
1024 x 768 x32 max settings no FSAA:
As you can see I had some Fusion fun since the excitement I had just seeing it run on a Voodoo5 5500 AGP hrr hrr :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

During my Voodoo5 5000 AGP & PCI Research days I also succeed to run DXX_Rebirth 0.55.1 on these ultra rare and elusive 3dfx Voodoo5 Engineering Samples.
I used the same driver as with the 5500 PCI's and the same technique to get it running as well.
Here's the test setup I used with the 5000 AGP:

Well that's DXX-Rebirth and heh that robot got PWNed by my 5000 AGP big time!
No tweaked drivers just the latest raw 3dfx WHQL drivers just awesome to see such a rare alpha board doing such a great job with Rebirth, kinda amzed here!
For the people that want to play DXX-Rebirth with their Voodoo5 cards under 98SE here is what you will need:

There you have it, the 3dfx guide to get DXX-Rebirth running on your Voodoo3, 4 and 5 cards, even if you have an Engineering Sample with this guide you are always in good hands.
Good news for the 3dfx people, SFFT just released SFFT 1.6, this driver allows Voodoo3 / 4 and 5 users to run their 3dfx cards under Win 2K/XP/Vista/7 X86 & x64 Operating Systems! So this will give DXX-Rebirth a greater future also, these new drivers are based on a brand new unified driver architecture!

This driver is part of a our new project that aims to get 3dfx working with some x64 OSes and some x64 hardware systems. If will be possible to catch up this target reducing hardware compatibility issues, we'll use same Unified Architecture driver for all Voodoo3/4/5 graphics controllers.It's the latest driver and yes thx to SFFT from 3dfxzone.it we still have new driver updates for our 3dfx VGA cards! :mrgreen: 8-) :mrgreen:

DXX-rebirth 0.57 works great with SFFT Alpha 41 modified by ps47, by reinstalling this driver I seemed to have fixed some corruptions, which caused the program not to run, here some pics of my PC Flashed Voodoo5 5500 PCI Macintosh 64MB in action:
Even that these tests were run on Engineering Samples & production Samples of the Voodoo5 series, like older versions of DXX-Rebirth, the 3dfx cards still need the same driver to make DXX-Rebirth 0.57.1 & any version of DXX-Rebirth 0.57.2 to function properly.
Keeping the 3dfx dream alive like this does us 3dfx people a lot of good, GET VOODOO.
p.s. Many Many Thanks to ps-47 making a suitable driver to get DXX-Rebirth working on 3dfx Vodooo3, 4 and 5 cards and also many thanks to Zico by keeping this old game series alive and compatible with older VGA cards than the boring ATI & NVIDIA cards many of us 3dfx'ers know about.
